Brewer's Notes: The first time we brewed this beer (actually 11/06/2013), it was brewed directly into a fresh wine barrel and fermented inside of that. It was Batch #200 and we made it to release on the occasion of our 2nd Anniversary. The original release was considerably drier than the new version of it because of that barrel fermentation, along with some nice red wine notes that are difficult, if not impossible, to replicate without the presence of wine-soaked wood.
That said, the tweaks we made for the 2016 release are outstanding. While we miss the wine barrel character we pick up the complex esters of the Abbey yeast on top of the caramel malt richness that is much more evident in a beer that isn't quite as dry as the last version. A really nice classic Dubbel.
This beer is named after the legendary Greek poet Orpheus, father of songs.
